Beginning sports bettors tend to focus on winning percentage.  This can be extremely misleading for money line sports bets common to baseball and hockey.  And even for sports like football and basketball, even if wagers are not made on money lines, the winning percentages still don't tell the whole story as varying dollar amounts per wager can effect the results tremendously. 

          For most bettors, bankroll increase is the most important number.  Win or Lose strives to increase the bankroll by an average of 20% per month.  Obviously, in some months it is better and some months it is worse.  While bankroll increase can be extremely important, you need a good way to measure your risk to achieve the bankroll increase.  A bankroll can increase by 50% by winning one -200 wager, or by winning 10 wagers, each for 5% of the bankroll at even money.  Which would you prefer?

          While Win or Lose doesn't put much stock in won/lost records, as they are misleading without knowing the specifics of the wagers (underdog money lines versus chalk favorites), we don't hide our records either.  With an average of over 14 plays per day in 2010 (through July 31), the all-sports combined won/loss record stands at  1611-1363-45, or 54.17% for 2010.  From August 31 through the end of 2009, our record was 1176-913-22, or 56.3%.

     Win or Lose believes the most important number is the Return on Investment (ROI) -- how much you win divided by the amount you wager.  For 2010, through July 31, Win or Lose has had a ROI of 3.57% on our All Sports wagers, risking about 1.5% of bankroll on average per wager, on over 3000 wagers.  For 2009 (August 1 through December 31), Win or Lose had a ROI of 2.09%, with the risk per wager of less than 1.2% of bankroll, spread out over 2100+ wagers.   While 2-3% doesn't sound like much, please remember this is for for every dollar you wager.  Since we turn over the bankroll every 3-4 days, you would have made, on average, 2-3% on your bankroll every 3-4 days!!!  This sure beats interest on a CD where you are lucky to get 3% a year!

         Frankly, we don't get the logic of many other sports betting services which always have a set number of plays.  If you can find 3 plays to wager on out of 10, chances are pretty darn  good, you should be able to find 30 plays out of 100.  If we see an edge, we bet it!

        Below are two days from June 2010, one with a lot of plays and one with only four plays.  On June 8, we found a lot of plays with an edge and it showed, as we went 18-4 and hit several nice dog lines.  On June 21, we struggled to find games with an edge, and it showed as well, as we went 1-3.  Which would you rather have?  Win or Lose will bet as many games as we can, when we find an edge. Period.  BTW, have you ever gone 18-4, hit all your dog lines of +137, +150 and +155, or increased your bankroll over 25% in a single day?  We did it all in one day!
